Countdown to D-Day : nine days to go - see you at the cemetery?

American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer

With only 9 days to go until the 76th anniversary of D-Day, France is still constrained by social distancing rules. Sites like the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer and Pointe du Hoc are closed to the public and I fear that may be the case on 6th June. But anyone who is familiar with this beautiful region will know that the landing beaches area is HUGE - over 100km by road from the northern end of Utah Beach to Riva Bella on Sword Beach. So there's lots of wide open space on the beaches and battlefields which are mostly open to the public. I'll be broadcasting live on Facebook and Instagram from a number of sites on Saturday, June 6th.

And if we can't access the cemetery I'll be very close - the US 1st Infantry memorial and WN62 (the position occupied by Heinrich Severloh - the so-called 'Beast of Omaha') are only yards away. And we plan to broadcast from Utah Beach, Omaha Beach and Sainte-Mère-Église too. Please join the broadcast - you can post questions, and view and share the videos afterwards. Currently the program runs from 2pm to 6pm Paris time - that's 8am to 12pm EDT if you're viewing from the USA or 10pm to 2am if you're in Sydney, Australia. Follow this blog or use the links below for updates to the schedule.

See you there on D-Day!
