Countdown to D-Day - one week to go!
D minus 7 - one week to go until the 76th anniversary of D-Day. Here in Normandy the movement and confinement restrictions have been lifted and from next week the bars, restaurants and hotels will reopen. What we can't do is commemorate - in groups of more than 10 people - the heroic actions of the allied armies who liberated Normandy in 1944. The Normandy Tour Guide associations will be laying wreaths at various sites and monuments, but sadly our overseas visitors will not be here.
We Love Normandy will be broadcasting on Facebook and Instagram from several sites including Utah Beach - here where the US VII Corps landed 21,000 troops from the 4th Infantry Division and elements of the 90th Infantry Division. We might go aboard the Higgins Boat Monument and visit the monuments dedicated to the 4th and the 90th IDs. We might just have a cold D-Day beer at the Café Roosevelt just behind the beach!
Tune in to the We Love Normandy facebook page on Saturday, June 6th from 2pm to 6pm Paris Time. It's free and open to all.
See you there!
